Peace Buckets
A reader plans to fill these buckets with water next winter and display the frozen columns of ice in their front yard.
The buckets are free from the floral department of a local grocery store. Sadly, they were simply throwing them away. For the past few years they've been saving them for me and I give them away to friends since one can find a variety of uses for them.

Thank you R.H. from Lancaster, Ohio for the photo and a great idea!
A peace group might start collecting buckets now and make several peace symbol ice sculptures next winter. Great for the holiday season!

Halloween 2005

so it goes

so it goes you were quite a soldier in your day
fought your hardest against the enemy
but you didn’t even know what you were
fighting for
now you’ve grown old and weak
all you have are the stories you keep
you’ve seen your son grow up just like you
sent out to war to fight once more
and overtime no one was sure what it was they were fighting for

An Immoral Story
Tim O'Brien
A true war story is never moral.

It does not instruct, nor encourage virtue, nor suggest
models of proper human behavior, nor restrain
men from doing things men have always done.
If a war story seems moral, do not believe it. If
at the end of a war story you feel uplifted, or if
you feel that some small bit of rectitude has
been salvaged from the larger waste, then you
have been made the victim of a very old and
terrible lie.
